Tips For Using Facial Moisturizers Correctly

Monday, August 31st, 2009

A good facial moisturizer is an important tool in a good skin care regimen. However, like any tool, if they aren’t used properly then they aren’t much good at all. You might think that all there is to the proper use of skin moisturizers is simply applying it to your face after you wash, or when you’re experiencing discomfort from dry skin. That covers the basics, but to really get the most out of a facial moisturizer, you have to know how to optimize its use.

The basic function of a facial moisturizer is to retain moisture in the outer layers of skin. Normally, any moisture evaporates from the skin quite quickly, which can leave it dry. This problem usually gets worse as people get older. A good moisturizer will keep the moisture in, making dry or aged skin feeling smooth to the touch, and looking a lot nicer too. The ingredients in the moisturizer do most of the work, but there are things that we can do when we apply moisturizer to help it work to its fullest potential.

The first useful tip is to always use your moisturizer right after you finished cleaning you face, while the skin is still damp. Remember that a moisturizer works to lock in water, which it can’t do especially well if there’s nothing to lock in. After a washing, your will have a good amount of moisture to seal in. If you opt to use toner on your face as well, you shouldn’t wipe it off before moisturizing. Apply the moisturizer while the toner is still damp and it will help to seal in the beneficial ingredients in the toner. Remember that the key word is damp – if you try to apply moisturizer when the face is still sopping wet, it will simply drip right off.

Next, pay attention to where you’re moisturizing. You would think that facial moisturizers would be usable on the entire face, but that’s not exactly accurate. In particular, you should avoid moisturizing around the eyes. The skin that surrounds the eyes is somewhat different when compared to the skin from other areas of the face. Facial moisturizers may be too potent and can lead to irritation and other problems if used on the eyes. They make specific creams for the eyes, and those are what should be used.

You also might think that they’d only be useful on the face, but that’s also incorrect. For instance, the neck area can benefit from the application of facial moisturizer. Start at the base and apply the moisturizer in broad upward strokes. A lot of people don’t consider the effect that the neck has on their overall appearance, but a neck with bad skin can look very unappealing.

A final tip: while you should apply moisturizer to a damp face, you should let the moisturizer dry completely before applying any cosmetic foundation. Otherwise, it can become very runny or get completely ruined.

These tips aren’t exactly life changing, but they do show you a few ways that you can better use your facial moisturizer.

Rejuvenate Yourself Through Collagen Treatment

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Collagen is a fibrous protein in nature. It is a connective tissue which accommodates for 25%-30% of the body protein content in the human body. Numerous strong bundles of collagen are termed as collagen fibres. Its primary function is to support the growth, wear and tear of tissues. Proteins are the building blocks of life making collagen an indispensable element in the human body. This protein has immense tensile strength and when coupled with elastin it endows the body muscles and tendons with flexibility. Collagen can be found within and around the cell membranes making it a contributing element to the structure of the human cell, the basic unit of life. The fact that blood vessels rely on the holistic functioning of collagen and elastin affirms the need of collagen in the human body. Collagen strengthens blood vessels and enables tissue development. Collagen accounts for 7% of the weight of a healthy and flexible human muscle.

Anti wrinkle creams claim that they contain collagen and keratin, this can be traced down to the fact that degradation in the content of collagen leads to the weakening of muscles. Wrinkles can be most visibly seen around the eyes and limbs making collagen an important element to fight against aging. Keratin also endows the muscles with tensile strength and collagen and keratin in combination offer hydration to the muscles which loose flexibility due to free radicals. Free radicals are unpaired electrons which damage cell membranes causing damage to them and eventually leading to the wrinkling of skin. Massaging the skin is also considered to be an effective way of abrogating free radicals through this technique does not regenerate collagen it is effective to fight against aging. Owing to its great tensile strength collagen is the main component of fascia, ligaments, cartilage, bones and skin. Collagen is also used in many cosmetic surgery procedures to enable the mobility of joints and is also useful during operations which require skin grafting especially in burns surgery cases. Collagen is also sold commercially as a supplement for joint mobility. The protein is the broken down into amino acids before the absorption stage of amino acids removing the possibility of orally ingested collage to negatively impact the connective tissue it supports.

The protein collagen is used in the food industry where gelatin used in food products is extracted from the partial hydrolysis of the protein, collagen. Hydrolysis of collagen can lead to the development of random coils which are responsible for the formation of gelatin. Gelatin is also used in numerous gelatin deserts. It is important to not that despite the fact that collagen is an indispensable protein in the body it does not contain all essential amino acids. Collagen is also being used as an ingredient in cosmetics owing to its hydrating and anti aging properties. But paradoxically research reveals that collagen is not a “complete protein” and dietary supplements need to be taken under medical prescription for the proper growth, development, wear and tear of the body.

Cook County Boot Camp – Get Fit

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Cook County boot camp is ran by the sheriff’s department. It’s used to rehabilitate criminals between the ages of 17 and 35 who have not committed crimes that are violent or even sex-related. Only those offenders who have been involved in a non-violent crime are eligible to participate. Also they will not have been able to serve more than one term previously in jail.

A military type boot camp, where the offenders will learn vocational skills, and training in education, and also treatment for drug or alcohol problems. After they have finished the boot camp, up to 8 months they will need to come back to make sure they are staying straight. These visits will need to be daily and they will be tested to make sure they are following the rules.

It’s thought that this program will help those young offenders to straighten up and fly right. They will have that good old military discipline, along with many other things. These will include anger management, job readiness skills, and other things that will help them in future life.

The rate of repeat offenders who have finished this program is outstanding. Showing that 7 out of 10 people who’ve been through this Cook county boot camp will not be in trouble again. A great idea that will teach discipline, job skills, and even help to get some of these offenders off of drugs and alcohol. A way in which they will be able to learn a skill like carpentry and hold down a job when they finish the program. Instead of being a burden on society they will be an integral part of it. Learning from an experience that will change their lives.

In five years only 30% of the people who’ve participated in this program have ever got into trouble again. That’s a great percentage for the over 4, 000 people who’ve been through this program that last a year. That’s 7 out of 10 people who will not commit a crime again and get into trouble.

The idea of Sheriff Michael Sheahan was finally opened back in 1997; it’s been used to help facilitate the rehabilitation of many young adults who’ve gotten into trouble. Now they have even expanded the education to include GED tests and a program to learn carpentry.

Lasting 18 weeks and a program that is very intensive in the military style, the offenders will also need to visit daily for 8 months after they have successfully completed the program. Located on 10. 2 acres in Chicago, this boot camp is truly a great success.

The offenders have a way to learn life skills and other things that will help them get jobs and help out in the community when they finish this program. With the intensive military style boot camp discipline is a must learn for these offenders.

With such a small repeat rate of only 3 out of 10 past offenders committing a crime again. This program seems like a great idea that should be looked into for many other states. Not only taking care of the problems with addictions, but with training in different areas that will help these young offenders locate and hopefully hold a job. A typical day will have them up at 5:30 in the morning and lights out at 9:30 at night.

The day at Cook County Fitness Boot Camp will be full of exercise, education, substance abuse treatment, and so much more. A great way in which these offenders are not only getting a second chance on life, but an education and the training they will need to hold down a good job when they complete the Boot Camp.
