Where Does Yeast Infection Happen

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The candida yeast infections are caused by a group of microscopic fungi or yeasts. They live all over the human body and cause infection or become numerous by entering small cuts or nicks especially in warm and moist areas. Examples of yeast infections are vaginal infections, thrush, diaper rash, and nailbed infections. Usually the skin effectively blocks the yeast from entering the body, but cuts and nicks can break down this barrier. Most yeast infection can be treated easily. Systemic infections, however, can prove fatal. Recurring yeast infections need to be investigated more completely to rule out underlying diseases such as AIDS or diabetes.

Not only the lack of cleanliness, but there are other factors as well that contribute to the yeast infection. They are pregnancy, menstruation, sperm, or the use of antibiotics and steroids. Another reason for yeast infection is a weak immunity or cancer treatment. IV ports also pose a threat to the body by supporting the yeast infection. Systemic infection causes the yeast to enter the blood stream. This should be checked immediately.

Yeast infection manifests itself as a white cheesy discharge in the case of vaginal infections. There can also be itching and irritation. In thrush thick, white, lacy patches on top of a red base can form on the tongue or elsewhere in the mouth. This makes it painful to eat and care should be taken to ensure that the patient does not become dehydrated.

Over the counter yeast infection medication can treat almost all the yeast infections. however, in case you experience abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea or vomiting, you should report to the doctor as this might hint towards systemic infection. If thrust is taking a longer time to cure that you need more aggressive yeast infection treatments and medical care.

If the infection seems to be uncontrollable, them IV antibiotics are advised. For other treatments, treatment can be done in your home itself. In case of the vaginal infection, women can make the use of vaginal yeast infection creams. However, the case id different for pregnant women, they should consult the doctor. There is a great possibility that thrush in babies can be the result of yeast infection around the breasts of the infected mother. Therefore, the doctor might also check that. They can also be treated.

Barrier cream and changing nappies frequently would help in the case of a diaper rash.

We all know that there is a wide range of yeast infection treatment present. These consist of reams, lotions, pills, troches (lozenges), and vaginal suppositories. However, it is recommended that you should contact the doctor before going for any of these medicines. This is to ensure that you get the right treatment by the right person.

There are two main types of medicines used to fight yeast infections. The azole group of medicines are antifungal drugs that end in the suffix “-azole.” They stop the manufacture of ergosterol, a critical material of the yeast cell wall. Without ergosterol, the yeast cell wall leaks and this causes the yeast to die. As ergosterol is not found in human membranes, azoles do not harm human cells. Polyene antifungals include nystatin and amphotericin B. Nystatin is used for thrush and superficial candidal infections. Doctors keep amphotericin B for more serious systemic fungal infections. These antifungals attach themselves to the yeast cell wall building material, that is, ergosterol. These medications then form synthetic holes in the yeast-wall causing the yeast to leak and thereby die.

Most yeast infections disappear within a week or two. Exceptions are in the cases of people with weakened immune systems, where the infection recurs and becomes difficult to treat.

The key to avoiding yeast infections is to keep yourself clean and dry. This is especially true in the case of areas where there are small nicks and cuts. Keep babies diaper areas clean and dry through the frequent changing of diapers. People with immune system deficiency such as those suffering from AIDS and cancer patients who have taken medication that has destroyed their immune system should be extra careful.

Hydration is what you should take care of when the patient experiences a thrush. This is even more recommended in the case of babies and weak patients which are more susceptible to dehydration.

Yeast Infections – Easy to Cure

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The human body is covered with yeast. This, however, does not cause an infection in most cases as the skin is an excellent barrier against yeast infections. However, in certain cases yeast infections do occur. This can happen when there are nicks, cuts, or abrasions. This is especially so if the cut is in an area that is moist or damp and warm. Yeast survives an multiplies well in these conditions.

Each has its own treatment course. Treating yeast infection is easy in most cases as there are a host of medications available. Some are over the counter medications, though it is always advisable to consult a doctor before taking them. The medications are of two types, though both work by weakening the yeast wall and thereby killing the yeast by causing it to leak. To treat yeast infection doctors employ either azoles or polyene antifungals.

Systemic infection is what you should take care of. While you are into this infection, the yeast enters the blood stream and harm the body to a great extent. A systematic infection is something that needs an immediate medical attention. The doctor will prescribe some strong medicines including the IV medication. People with AIDS, diabetes and cancer are more prone to the same. Pregnancy, sperm, and menstruation are some other factors responsible for yeast infction.

The availability of the over the counter yeast infection medications should not deviate us from seeing a doctor. This recommendation becomes even stronger in the case of pregnant women, babies and elderly people. A cheesy white discharge from the vagina indicates the presence of yeast infection. Thrush is a condition in which yeast infection occurs in the mouth. A thick, lacy, white formation on a red base in the mouth or tongue is generally seen in an oral thrush. Dehydration is something that you should keep in mind while you are experiencing an oral thrush. This is because swallowing is made almost impossible in such cases. Hence, the patient tends to avoid eating and drinking. If anything like this happens, you should immediately contact the doctor.

Nappy rashes demand the cleanliness and the dryness of the affected area. Changing the nappies frequently and using the barrier cream will prevent the yeast infections.

There are a wide variety of treatment options available to treat yeast infections. These include creams, lotions, pills, troches (lozenges), and vaginal suppositories. It is best to consult a doctor who will recommend a particular course of treatment after taking your individual condition into consideration. Most doctors recommend creams to be applied to the vagina for a vaginal infection and lozenges for thrush. Babies have fewer options than adults when it comes to thrush. Please do let your doctor know that you are pregnant if you are. Your treatment will vary accordingly.

The generally duration for yeast infection is a week or two. However, if it does not end, then contact a doctor. People with AIDS, diabetes, or cancer are more prone to this. They are especially vulnerable to systemic infections and need to be more careful than others. In any case every one should visit a doctor in case they have fever, chills, vomiting, nausea, or abdominal pain. These are all symptoms of a systemic infection that can affect the blood stream or kidneys and which can be fatal. Please do not take these symptoms lightly.

The bottom line is to keep the body clean and dry, especially around some of the cuts and abrasions. For babies, keep them dry and clean. Use barrier cream and change nappies frequently. For people who use dentures, they should clean their mouth along with the dentures. This will keep thrush at bay. If there happen to be thrush in babies, mothers breast will have to be examined by the doctor.

Patients with low immunity levels should take particular care to ensure that they do not get a systemic infection as this can some times prove fatal. If you suspect a systemic infection, please do rush the patient to a hospital for prompt and aggressive medical care. This is a must to ensure the survival of the patient.

If the infection happens to recur time and again, it might point to some deadly diseases like AIDS. Hence, get a thorough medical diagnosis done.

What Are the Options to Treat Yeast Infections

Monday, August 31st, 2009

It would be wrong to say that candida infection affects only adults. It has also found to be affecting the babies. It affects the babies in tow forms, diaper rashes and thrush. Women have it in the form of vaginal infection. Elderly people experience thrush as they use dentures. However, one type common to all is nail bed infection.

Yeast occurs naturally all over the human body. However, under certain conditions it infects the body. The skin normally acts as a barrier to yeast infections and protects us well from it. However, when there are nicks, cuts, or abrasions on the skin, especially in a warm and moist area such as the armpit or groin than infections can occur. Infections also occur to those with compromised immune systems such as those suffering from AIDS or diabetes. The use of strong antibiotics or steroids too encourages the growth of yeast infections in the human body. This means that cancer patients who are undergoing aggressive forms of treatment are likely to become infected with yeast. As systemic infections

Can Fat People Really Get Skinny

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I have a number of friends that are overweight. Not just a little overweight, but substantially overweight. I have had the opportunity to talk to these people about whether or not they are going to try to lose that weight. From one person I got a very interesting answer. He did not feel that he would ever be able to lose the weight. He could not even imagine himself skinny and therefore had absolutely no motivation to work out.

To be honest with you sometimes it is hard for me to picture someone that is extremely overweight being in shape. That is until you see a friend accomplish such a feet. Yeah you can watch shows like the biggest loser and see people transform their lives, but that takes place in fantasy land. If you could take 6 months, not take care of your family, or your job, or your responsibilities and only workout then you’d be in incredible shape too. But I am talking about seeing a friend lose over 140 pounds over the course of a year or so and look the best he has ever looked in a long time.

I have witnessed such a thing recently. A friend of mine, we’ll call him Gary, has gone from 360 pounds down to 220 pounds and is still losing weight. This is an amazing thing to watch. Every time I see him he is skinnier and looking better and better.

So if you are overweight and do not think that you can get skinny you are wrong. You can do it. You just have to see beyond what your body looks like right now, set some goals, get some accountability and go for it. Here are some ideas.

1. Set small attainable goals, with one large goal to keep you motivated. Setting a large goal is key to keep you motivated for the whole plan. Short term goals will keep you moving from point a to b.

2. Reward yourself. Every time you complete a goal then give yourself a reward. Not food, but maybe a movie, or a game, or go mini golfing. Just something that you like to do.

3.Do not cheat. If your short term goal is to lose 5 pounds, do not reward yourself until you actually hit 5 pounds.

4. Make some of your goals to be able to keep the weight off for a month or 2 weeks. These types of goals will help you keep the focus so you can continue forward.

5. Find a friend to do it with you. Team up, and help keep each other accountable. You can diet together and work out together. Remember that 2 is stronger than 1.

6. Remember that 80% of losing weight is diet, but 80% of keeping that weight off is exercise. Putting the two together is the best way to lose and keep the weight off.

7. Understand that this is going to be a lifestyle, not just a 2 month process, but also remember that it is worth it.
