In grapes, Resveratrol is found mainly in the skin, and in muscadine grapes it’s found in the seeds as well. Red wine contains between 0.2 and 5.8 mg/L of Resveratrol depending on the grape variety. White wine generally contains much less than red. The reason is that red wine is fermented with the grape skins, allowing the wine to absorb the resveratrol, whereas white wine is fermented after the grape skin has been removed.

The dynamics of Resveratrol’s effects on life extension are not yet fully understood, but appear to mimic several of the physiological effects of calorie restriction.
