Friday, May 14th, 2010

Ever experienced severe back pain? Sometimes, we perceive back pain as a form of illness that is being experienced by old people when in fact it is not. Anyone can suffer from back pain, the young and old, men and women, even individuals who have large muscles and strong body build. There is no exception.

Experiencing back pain can be very disturbing especially when we are working or when we are resting. Sitting for more than eight hours can bring about back pain and so does lying in bed for how many hours. It is important for us to spend five minutes of stretching especially when our work entails excessive hours of sitting and facing on computers. A five minute break every two hours would probably be enough to strengthen the muscles and stretch the bones. This exercise will not only benefit our bodies but it will also allow us to become awake when we feel dizzy or tired.

When the pain in our back still persists and pain medications no longer respond, it is best to consult your health care provider that way we will know if we are suffering from bone disorders. Back pains are usually found in the spine, the lumbar and the sacral bones. The nerves are affected once there is a problem in those areas making the individual to experience back pain. Surgery may be needed in this life circumstances. Like if the problem is on the spine, spinal fusion may be required. Successful spinal fusion surgery recovery is possible when the doctors and other health care team are really doing their best to correct the problem.

Cutting Your Calories by Cutting Your Portion Size

Friday, May 14th, 2010

How big are the plates you eat your meals from? Have you noticed the difference in the sizes of plates from when we were younger, go check your mothers China cabinet she probably still has them. The plates we ate off of as children are not the same size we eat off as an adult. This is because the size of our salad plates is now the size of our old dinner plates but why is this. We may not know exactly why the plates we have at home are bigger but something you should notice next time you eat at a restaurant, their plates are still the same smaller size, this is so they can put less food on the plate but still be able to fill the plate with food. Looks like you got more but really it is portion control. This is our problem we do not know what portion control is at home.

When it comes down to weight loss, portion control is key and some people may actually need to eat off a salad plate to make the food look like an amount they are used to. Hunger isn’t always associated with food, can also be in our minds. The size of your meal equals the amount of calories you consume. If you eat twice as much as you normally eat, your calorie intake will also double. Consequently, if you reduce your portion sizes and cut your food intake in half; your calorie intake will also reduce by half. So what can we do in order to control our portion sizes with greater ease?

One way to better control the amount of calories we consume is to serve smaller portions. Simply place a little bit less on your plate than what you normally eat. Remember that you can always have seconds if needed. Another means of controlling your meal size is to measure the amount of food you eat. If you are eating from a container, it may be difficult to pin point exactly how much you have eaten. But if you place your food on a plate, you have a better visual of the amount of food you are consuming. Measuring serving sizes is also a good tip when trying to control your calorie intake.

In order to measure the serving sizes of the products you purchase you have to check the labels. Each and every single product has a label which specifies the amount of calories per serving. It is wise to follow the serving sizes on these labels. This way you are aware of the exact amount of calories you are consuming. You no longer have to second guess. And last but certainly not least, you should never feel obligated to clean your plate. It is completely normal to stop eating once you are full. Do not push yourself into eating more just because something tastes good. Portion control is extremely important and following these few steps will help you reduce your calorie intake in no time.

How to Achieve Weight Loss

Friday, May 14th, 2010

It seems like a simple question, how does one achieve weight loss? But thousands of people struggle with this question everyday and cannot find an answer that makes them comfortable. Losing weight can be quite a fight. Many people give up on weight loss due to control or inspiration problems. If you can’t afford a personal trainer, it is often difficult to get the support and guidance you need in order to succeed. But times are changing and now with the use of the internet one is able to find the guidance and support they need to succeed.

The most important step towards successful weight loss is exercise because it is very important to exercise daily. A proper diet can only take you so far without the added effort of physical activity. Physical activity doesn’t need to be anything hard or even strenuous it can be something small and even relaxing like taking a walking. If you want to step up the pace you can run or jog and swimming is great exercise in the summer months. The important part is to do physical activity at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes each session.

Another important step towards successful weight loss is breakfast consumption. Eating a healthy breakfast every morning is very important. If you tend to skip your breakfast, you are more likely to overindulge during lunch. Considering that you do not eat throughout the night, skipping breakfast can leave your body without food for 15 hours or so. It is important to eat 4 small meals throughout the day in order to maintain better control of your appetite and starting the day with an egg and a piece of toast gives your body the ability to with stand for hours. Eating small mini meals each day, a meal every few hours, will give you the power to stay strong in achieving your weight loss goal and you will avoid binge eating because you will never be hungry.

Another excellent dieting tip is to add protein into every meal you consume. Lean protein, such as that from lean meats, and dairy, keeps you feeling full much longer than carbohydrates and fats. A good outline to remember is 2 proteins, 2 vegetables, 1 fruit, 1 carb, and one fat. If you are filling your plate you should have

Dieting Mistakes to Avoid

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Now that you are working out you can eat that extra piece of chocolate cake tonight and you can just work a little harder in the morning and burn it off. Wrong, this is one of the biggest dieting and workout mistakes out there; many people feel that it is ok to cheat as long as you work it off during your next session. Calories don’t exactly work this way, once it is in, it is in and even though you can eventually burn it off you are not really burning off the same thing you put in your mouth.

A lot of people who start a workout routine tend to slack off a little once they notice a few pounds dropping. They start to feel better about themselves and they start thinking that a little snack here and there won’t make a difference. However, getting off track with your diet even once can surely impact your weight. When we break up our healthy diet with calorie laden snacks every now and then, we undergo what is called the yo-yo diet. Not only does our food selection yo-yo between healthy and not healthy, but our weight yo-yo’s as well. So what are some of the diet mistakes which we should avoid in order to keep our diet stable?

First of all, you should never skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast will leave you without food for way too many hours and will lead to uncontrollable hunger. During this situation you are more likely to overeat, or even worse, dig into your co-workers candy stash. To avoid this problem, simply eat breakfast and follow up with 3 more small meals throughout the rest of the day. Another diet mistake to avoid is fast food. Let’s say you didn’t have time to pack your lunch one day and it just so happens that there is a fast food joint just around the corner. Where are you going to eat? Yes that’s right, and the truth is, if you do it once you will most likely do it again. Not only was it convenient but it also gave you a few extra minutes in the morning. To avoid this problem, be sure to pack your lunch even the night before.

The third diet mistake people make is overindulging on low-fat foods. Just because it’s low fat it does not mean that we can eat as much as we want. If you eat three serving of something that is low fat, you might just be getting the same amount of calories, if not more, than if you were eating a non diet product and low fat products tend to be higher in something else so make sure you read the label on all overly processed foods. Just because it says its good for you doesn’t necessarily mean it is. Just remember a spray of I can’t believe it’s not butter has 0 calories but the entire bottle contains over 900. These are just a few tips to keep in mind when dieting.
