Join a Gym and Help Relieve the Pressures of a Busy Life

When thinking about getting some well needed exercise down at your local health club and gym, does the phrase “I haven’t got time” sound familiar? It is one of the most common excuses we all use for not going to the gym, but what we don’t realise is that joining a gym can actually relieve the pressure from our busy lifestyles!

You’re thinking, how on earth can I fit an hour in the gym 3-4 times a week? Try and think of it in another way, as each hour can be used to help toward your job effectiveness.

How?

Well research shows that taking the time out to exercise can actually improve your performance in the workplace. By giving ideas and stresses time to ‘incubate’ in your brain, you come away not only feeling refreshed from the workout, but ready to face the challenges in your job.

Think about it, your mum always told you to go and ‘sleep on an idea’ and in the morning it would all be clear, and wasn’t she always annoyingly right?

Exercise can provide that same state in your brain so that you are able to think clearly after a session in the gym. Your brain achieves almost a meditative type state, even when you have the I-pod blasting and one eye on the T.V, your mind wanders and it gives it the rest it needs.

Pressures in our lives come from our home life as well as the workplace, so taking that hour out in your local health club means you come home in a great mood, ready to relax in the evening as you have unwound beforehand. Many gyms also offer health and beauty treatments and spa days which can all help you distress.

Added benefits

In addition, this new healthy lifestyle decreases cortisol, increases endorphins, tones your body, is better for your heart, and helps you lose or maintain a healthy weight.

Cortisol, although necessary for our bodies, is known as a ‘stress-hormone’ as it’s usually related to high-stress activities. Today’s lifestyles are often permanently high-stress meaning that we produce too much cortisol having damaging effects on the body.

A trip to the gym also increases endorphins; the ‘feel-good’ chemicals that help decrease the symptoms of depression and SAD amongst other benefits. Those endorphins are the same ones we get from chocolate and sex, one being healthier that the other!

Your heart is one of the most important organs of the body and to maintain a healthy one, exercise is key. Research proves that regular gym use and a healthy lifestyle can add years onto your life, so what are you waiting for?!

Making the most out of life!

Getting the balance right between work, rest and play can be the difference between feeling happy and feeling like you’re constantly under pressure from every avenue. Now that we know how beneficial joining the gym is for all the aspects of life, there should be no more making up excuses that you don’t have the time. Take the time and see your life improve.
